Bugging out!

As I was going out for my run tonight, I stopped to marvel at my spider's web handiwork from the other night. The spider was front and center, and big... Like a half dollar size. She twitched and zipped around, uncomfortable that I was watching her. Hint taken. Who wants to be around spiders anyway? (((Shudder))) NOT ME. I love most animals, but I only admire spiders from a safe, non-jump-distance. And off I ran.
I was about half a mile into my run, speeding down a nice slope and under some lie branches, when I ran through a very large web, UGH!!! And for the next 3 miles, I cringed, wondering if I had a spider on me. I had thin-yet-impossibly-strong silk across my face, arms, body, and legs. I kept running and tried to pull it off, but it was very sticky. Oh. My. God.
But eventually I kind of forgot about it, the web having fallen off, or I became accustomed to it. No sooner did I relax, than I ran through another large web. Cars driving by must have thought I was having a seizure, or listening to Lady Gaga (which I'm pretty sure is seizure-inducing), I was flailing around the sidewalk, waving my arms like a crazy person. I never did find any spiders. But... The thought was as bad as the reality.
I arrived back home after 4.5 miles and stopped to make sure my spider hadn't pulled a Charlotte and stitched "we're coming for you Jen" into its project. She had just caught and killed a cicada that rivaled her size, and was beginning to wrap it.
Horr.i.fy.ing.
I entered the house through the garage and heard a VERY loud buzzing. My first thought was, "Oh, sonofabitch that spider has a chainsaw!" My second thought was, "Oh, no! A dragonfly is caught in my garage door opener!" So I climbed up on the ladder and removed the cover before he burned up under the light bulb. He was stunned, so I was able to admire him before he took off.
Why are dragonflies awesome and spiders awful? Beats me. Spiders are way more beneficial to humans. But I'll stick with the big-eyed, 6-legged, long-winged freaks, thank you very much.
