Digging in the yard yielded some interesting surprises: this weekend alone, a small, rusty pair of scissors, a Micro Machines Vette, and a class ring. Here they're resting in an old cardinal nest found in the burning bushes. These things have all been buried at least 10 years, or before I owned the house.
As I'm cleaning up the ring I'm realizing that there's little hope of reuniting it with its former owner. There's no name inscribed on the inside of the band, and around the gem it simply says, "HIGH SCHOOL," which doesn't exactly narrow it down. Little by little I'm soaking the ring in jewelry cleaner, being careful not to damage it. And the details on the side of the ring and a hint of gold color are starting to be revealed...
There have been a number of odd things I've discovered in and around my house over the years. My plan is to write a story that connects them all...
