Madeline was out walking Bruce this week & came across a 5-month-old shiba puppy, who ROARED at them. She said, "it was just so silly to hear that loud sound coming out of such a small package. Bruce seemed surprised, too."
When I'm out with my dogs I'm often asked, "Are those the dogs that don't bark?" And I have to give an emphatic "NO." Shibas are some of the most vocal dogs I've ever been around. But they're generally very quiet in the house, except when they're playing (and they sound like baboons). Aki will often "roar" at Taylor when they're walking on-leash & he bumps into her.
Aki also likes to howl every time the phone rings, as evidenced by her debut on Youtube.
Taylor is a big howler. I think he's part howler monkey. He howls at me every day when I walk in the door from work. And—my favorite—he is SO EXCITED to see me EVERY morning when I wake up that he stands next to my bed & wags his tail & howls away. Gotta love dogs.
