Antioch Park was full of wildlife today (I mean besides the ever-present tree spiders...shudder!) While jogging with the dogs I happened to look over the edge of the bridge, and there was a little bird that I thought was a very young great blue heron. When I got home & looked it up, it turned out to be a nearly-full-grown green heron! They're quite small—this one was probably 8" tall—but it was otherwise unmistakable as a heron. He was wading in the shallows on the east side of the secluded bridge looking for fish. So cute!
I also noticed a few painted turtles sunning themselves on logs around the lake. They were fairly skittish & slid into the water as soon as they saw me (and the dogs) approaching, so you had to look quickly to spot them.
