This morning Danielle emailed everyone here at work to say that she had again brought in some famous Philly soft pretzels to share, and she declared today "Philly Pretzel Friday!"
So what do pretzels have to do with Japanese? Stay with me here...
Japanese uses 3 different written alphabets. The alphabet for native Japanese words is called Hiragana, which has 44 unique characters that each represent a single syllable, and over 100 sounds. Here is a kids poster with the whole Hiragana alphabet:
