a very Rifftrax xmas

Tonight I went to Cinemark to watch a broadcast of a live taping of Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (all MST3K alumns) on their latest project, Rifftrax. The format is familiar, but the jokes are fresh! Most of the shorts were holiday-themed... but some just came with wafer-thin explanations on how they fit into this holiday event. (I'm looking at you, Pork Council, with your butchers-as-barbershop-quartet "Three Magic Words" film!) The whole show was a circus of shorts with terrible actors, terrible sets, terrible music, terrible dialogue, and terrible effects. It was WONDERFUL!!!

Mike Nelson, apparently, is not a social expression industry fan. First he made a crack about not sending Christmas cards because of how expensive they are. Then he said, "Nice, Santa—looks like the dumpster behind Hallmark!" (in response to Santa waving his arms—and magically decorating the tree instantaneously). So what does Mike Nelson have against Hallmark, anyway?! It's not like we invented Christmas!!! Well, I still love you, Mike. Even as you betray me. LOL
