Another great performance by the KC symphony tonight! This was the second time I've combined sushi, symphony, and Schoenberg, actually. ("Picture Studies" was far superior to this piece, IMHO, but you decide.) The other three were pretty spectacular, particularly the Bernstein piece and the show stopping Ravel. Bolero has such a great build, and there's nothing like hearing it in person.
It was also fun to hang out after the show to enjoy
a glass of champagne punch and hobnob with all the musicians. Really interesting, talented, gracious people.
Now, don't get me wrong, I still love my rap music. But it is nice to experience and truly appreciate the symphony. I just didn't have the opportunity when I was a kid, so it's fun to learn about it now. Even listening to the weekly KC symphony hour on NPR on the way home (Thursdays, 9 pm), I have a greater appreciation for the depth of the music. And I notice subtle details I'd have missed before.
Pretty sure I'll be dreaming of that infectious Bolero tonight...
