A couple of weeks ago, Kelly discovered a new Asian grocery store in the OP, 888 Market at 119th & Grant (Presumably the same owners as the store on 87th street). He & I went on a shopping excursion today & decided to stop by. I have to say that after being there, I felt like I had a mini-vacation from Kansas City; it is a large store with an extensive selection of produce, frozen foods and other products from Japan, China, Thailand, India & more that I haven't seen elsewhere. It even had a small cafe! The cafe is near the door as you enter. Once we passed the fresh meals & sushi case, we found ourselves staring directly into the face of some ducks, in what appeared to be an ancient torture device!
A whole row of pickled stuff. Pickled lemon, mango, baby banana buds, bananas, garlic, mushrooms, lotus... you name it, it's in a pickle.
LOVE these cute Korean snack packages:
And the "artist penguin" on the Vitasoy drink boxes:
And the chef-shaped stir fry bottles:
But I think I'll pass on the chicken feet:
And the durian fruit (seeing Andrew Zimmern gag at the overpowering odor was enough for me) that guy eats penises, but won't eat this:
In the last row (the restaurant supply aisle), there was a 5-gallon bucket of who-knows-what with a pig-panda on it!
