aixois m (f aixoise, m plural aixois, f plural aixoises)
- from or relating to any of the towns/cities in France with the name Aix
- a strange situation (I made that one up myself!)
So I was enjoying a lovely dinner at Aixois in Brookside last night, when suddenly there was a blinding light in my eyes, and this dude with a huge video camera on his shoulder stops at the table right behind me and interrupts the couple. For a split second I thought, "Oh God—he's going to propose to her & he wanted to get it on camera!" but it was soon apparent that even the couple didn't know why he was there. He mumbled that he was filming a spot about the best restaurants in KC for an upcoming show on KCPT and encouraged them to keep eating. So we did our best to ignore him & went back to our food. BUT NO! Next he visited out table, and didn't say boo to us—not a "hello," a polite introduction or even a "hey, do you mind if I shove this camera in your face while you eat?" So we did our best to gracefully choke down bites of food & fake an authentic-looking toast until he finally went away. (My friend kept making hilarious faces at me, so I'm sure to look like a giggling idiot on film!) Our server stopped by to apologize, saying that even she didn't know what he was up to. (So look for me on an upcoming episode of PBS's "Check, Please!")
Even with all that, one of the strangest parts of the evening was a painting on display at Jardine's. We were there to hear Nathan Granner sing. Anyway, a local artist had a show of his realistic black & white acrylic paintings of famous musicians. The likenesses were a bit tough to figure out, and I wasn't close enough to read the signs. But I'm pretty sure they were Joni Mitchell, Joe Cocker... and Justin Timberlake, leaning over suggestively and blowing the keys off a piano. Just a guess.
