One Bite Japanese Grill
After the race this morning & a long day of working on my upcoming JAS (Japan-America Society) presentation, I needed to get out tonight. And I needed Japanese food. So I convinced Kelly to go down to One Bite with me, and we had a blast. And not just because the food was outstanding, and so authentic: our server picked up on my pronunciation of some of the menu items (ぎょうざ と お好み焼き) and struck up a conversation with us. She told us about the history of the restaurant (they've been there for 4 years), about Erika the owner, a young Japanese woman, and about their struggles in this terrible economy. Before long, Erika came over to visit with us, and brought along some of their new marketing materials for an upcoming "Fancy Foods" show in NYC in June, to get our opinions on them. She told us that Japanese businessmen, and baseball stars like Daisuke Matsuzaka come there to eat when they're in town & want good food. We exchanged business cards (名刺、めいし) and now I already can't wait to go back. Super-cool people.
