So I'll tell you the moral of the story first: always listen to your yoga instructor! Here I was in class Tuesday night, making small talk with Britten, who wisely advised me not to overexert myself:
But after a less-than-happy-happy hour on Friday night I felt I needed to run to clear my head, so the dogs & I went around the neighborhood until it got dark. Saturday morning I awoke with lots of energy, and I HATE to miss my step aerobics class with Crystal, since it's only offered once a week. So against my better judgement (and certainly Britten's!) I went for an hour of high-intensity fun.The classroom is really small and was very crowded, and also the fans weren't working sufficiently. So we were all sweating like hogs.
And sweat + slick gym floor = me taking a spill during a particularly high kick, and landing flat on my back on the bench.
I wasn't really hurt—other than a twisted ankle and bruised pride—
and jumped up in a nanosecond (humiliation is a great motivator!)

Went out for dinner & a movie ("Death at a Funeral." Which is better than "Death at a Gym," which I narrowly avoided) & returned home later than planned last night. No worries, I thought. I'll just climb into my comfy bed & will be asleep in no time, good as new in time for the race! Sammy, the neighbors' dog had other ideas. They had left her outside in the rain, & she stood just outside my bedroom window & barked literally all night long. At 4 am I was so ridiculously tired & enraged that I screamed at her out the window. She finally listened.
Despite the misadventures, I was determined to have a good run. Kelly dropped me off at the start line, where I bumped into Crystal, so it was fun to chat with her for 30 minutes or so until the race began. (We were still in close proximity at least 2 miles in, then I lost track of her.) I finished the race in 32:03, hitting my goal time & beating last year's time by over 3 minutes! (And placing an impressive 1256th place out of 10,500 entrants! LOL) The race taught me that I should not plan to run anything over a 5k unless I see a doctor about my asthma. Ignoring it isn't working! Remind me of this when I sign up for the next one.
I saw Danielle after the race, and she finished in 8th place among the women (18th overall), 24:32! Then I met back up with Kelly & we had a great breakfast at the very crowded eggtc.
My playlist: On to the Next One (Jay-Z f. Swizz Beatz); Headsprung (LL Cool J); Touch Your Toes (Armand Van Helden f. Fat Joe & BL); Tear it Up (Yung Wun f. David Banner, DMX & Lil' Flip); (If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To (Weezer); Elevator (Flo Rida f. Timbaland); Ali in the Jungle (The Hours);
Wow. Despite all the misadventures, glad you had a good race and beat last year's time!
