I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out... Especially when I went back to see the progression! We started by meeting to discuss & claim our breeds, then we drew up the grid and got a rough idea of who would illustrate which squares.
There were a lot of smaller, awkwardly-shaped areas, so we started combining adjacent spaces to get to this next version. The coolest part of the process to me was that as we each started seeing each others' work, we got ideas on how to plus up our own, and we each kept modifying right up until we were all happy with the result.
Tthe finished piece speaks to the power of collaboration. I truly believe that working together made every concept & illustration better! There's no way I would have come up with something this cool on my own:
Click here for my earlier post, revealing who did what. Most of the concepts are a pun on the breed of dog. I always wished I had a pun for the shiba, but just couldn't come up with anything. Then, of course, once the thing was printed I thought, "QUEEN OF SHIBA!!!"
But of course it was too late. Maybe next year...
