Came home from work. Dogs were excited to see me. Let them outside. Ran upstairs. I had 15 minutes to change clothes, feed the dogs & get to the gym in time for boot camp. Changed. Downstairs. Went out to play with the dogs. Taylor appeared to have something large in his mouth. And acted like didn't want me to take it. I made him sit, opened his mouth & saw nothing... except that my boy had a very swollen face.
I dashed inside & called my vet, Dr. Rad, & happened to catch him minutes before he was due to leave the office. He said come on in. (This man is a saint in my book!) He suspected Taylor had been stung by an insect & gave him a shot of antihistamine & a shot of Cortisone. He said by the time most dogs come in, their faces are so swollen they look like a Shar Pei, and often their eyes are swollen shut! One of the vet techs told me that Dr. Davis had a lab that got stung by a bee, and the dog's windpipe sealed & he had to be given an IV & an emergency tracheotomy! Those were good reminders to count my blessings. So I'm sitting on the couch with Tay now, still bummed that I missed boot camp, but so thankful that my boy is alright!
