Then the doc came in & informed me that the thing in my hip that I didn't want to be torn, was torn. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. My "worst fear" had been that he was going to tell me I'd have to completely lay off exercise for several weeks, and I'd be restless. This news was much, much worse. Ironically, he said I can do any exercise that I feel up to doing, just to stop when the pain is unbearable. The tear isn't going to heal itself. Best-case, the pain will decrease through physical therapy & I can learn to live with it. Worst-case, the physical therapy won't help and I'll have to consider surgery. He said that there are a lot of unknowns with this particular surgery, and that few doctors even perform it. It may require the labrum to be cut, trimmed, or just sewn back together, all of which could cause inflammation & scar tissue & potentially increase my problems. I'm going to consult with his partner, who is an orthopedic surgeon, in a few weeks, but it doesn't sound like an option I'd want to pursue. Certainly not a silver bullet.
In any case, I'm now more likely to reap benefits from one of these or these, than one of these. And all of them suck.
In other, funnier, news, Dave was on the internet at work and this banner ad popped up:
As he pointed out, "Metamucil as a multi-tasker?! And that's a good thing?? What does that mean, you get sick from BOTH ends?" I was in a pretty low place after my appointment, but I can always count on my coworkers to cheer me up.
Dave later sent us another ad he received:
To which Gary responded: "You know, a lot of those ads use technology that presents a targeted ad based on your web-browsing history..." LOL!!!
