Discover Scuba Diving (DSD)

Today Jerry and I led a very fun Discover session with the Junior ROTC. I've led large groups of boisterous Boy Scouts before and was expecting more of the same, but these young men (and woman) surprised me with how polite and attentive they were. And they all did great! What a treat for us to work with them.
Because a few people have asked: Discover Scuba Diving is an introductory course that allows students to try out the gear and learn basic techniques in the pool, under close supervision of the divemaster or instructor. In discover, students practice basic and important skills like clearing a mask and regulator, removing and replacing a regulator, and operation of the BC. Usually by the end of the hour, even participants who were a little nervous at first are doing somersaults in the deep end of the pool, and playing Frisbee underwater. It really is a lot of fun!
