You know broccoli is good when...

Your sister sends a photo postcard of it.

Happy Labor Day!

Kristin, my lil sis, just sent this photo with the caption, "Happy Labor Day!" Apparently she has been laboring over the oven. Because I recognize fresh roasted broccoli!

Hakuna Frittata!

I felt like cooking tonight. Also, I had accidentally bought an extra carton of eggs, so I NEEDED to cook SOMETHING tonight. And that something turned out to be an italian sausage, spinach, garlic & onion frittata. Topped with feta cheese and crabmeat. With a side of broccoli of the gods. (Yes, that IS twice in one week. 6 broccoli crowns in all. Going to find a 12-step program. Once I admit I have a problem.)
And they look even better when they come out of the oven!
And in honor of Alexandra's first day back at Hallmark tomorrow (as a full-time employee rather than a summer intern!), I made two big batches of chocolate flake fromage ice cream, based on my favorite flavor at Murray's in Westport. Because cheesecake & ice cream are two great things that go better together!
It was so good to see Alexandra again... she looked very happy! And so did everyone else after they had some ice cream. Yay!

すてきなステーキとすばらしいブロッコリ!

I made sauteed portobello & onions, with roasted garlic hot chili oil...
And another round of "broccoli of the gods..."
And grilled the Pièce de résistance, the marinated steak!
...Oh, who am I kidding? The broccoli was the best part!!! I made 3 large heads of broccoli and they were gone in 2 days. I am the broccoli monster. Cookie Monster ain't got nuthin' on me!

Broccoli of the Gods

I like cooking big dinners on the weekends, and having leftovers to lean on all week. Tonight I decided to marinate & grill steaks, and to try the roasted broccoli recipe that Alex sent. So much for leftovers! I made two large broccoli crowns, and managed to polish off more than one crown in one sitting. The broccoli was literally gone before the steak. It is THAT GOOD. I couldn't wait until dinner the next day to finish it off. I kept getting into the fridge & opening the container & eating a couple of pieces at a time. Then I considered running to the grocery store & cleaning them out of their broccoli stash. You only think I'm joking.
