Soup is Good Food!

Best bargain in town: the soup-making class at the K-State Extension Office. $15 for a 2-hour class with 12 volunteers chef ladies, each demonstrating techniques for healthy and delicious soup. Nicole went with me (and we were the youngest attendees by probably a 15 year gap), and we had a blast. AND we got to taste-test TEN freshly-made soups! Education + dinner in one. We tried pumpkin-black bean soup, Chinese, Italian sausage, Tuscan bean, cream of zucchini, quinoa, garden tomato with curry, two-bean Mexican, clean-out-the-fridge creamy soup, and Italian tortellini. Yum!
On a side note, the woman next to me looked extremely familiar. And during the class, she leaned over and asked my name, because she thought I looked extremely familiar as well. We weren't able to pinpoint where we may have met. She has worked at a senior center for nearly 20 years, and for Meals on Wheels for eight and a half years. She had a great, dry, snarky sense of humor. "I'm learning how NOT to be when I get old!" she said. Which was funny, in part, because she was older. She kept looking at me and rolling her eyes and making hilarious comments quietly during the demonstrations, and critiqued the soups with us. What a hoot. She reminded me of my Grandmother, Adele, who never pulled any punches when it came to what was on her mind. (Maybe that's where I get it from, eh?)

Zip Line in Action

All of my zip line adventure movies are on my Youtube channel, but here are a couple of my favorites starring the biggest goofball in the group (yes, that's me). My only complaint is that the lines weren't 10000x longer and the fun was over too quickly!!!

Get Thee to a Winery

After our morning fun, we drove a short way to Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, MO, the historic German town, for a wine tasting & lunch...
We dined on sauerbraten, red cabbage, spaetzel, and potato pancakes.
It's that kid's 13th birthday... And here's his new Facebook profile photo!
What a perfectly fun day with friends!

The Zip-Line Gang

This morning I woke up stupid-early (for a weekend), sucked down some coffee, Nicole picked me up, and we drove out to Britten & Rich's place in Oak Grove. Then we piled into Britten's car with Rich at the wheel and set out for New Florence, MO, near St. Louis. We had bought Groupons months ago for a place called Eco Zipline Tours and were finally going to use them. And just in time for the fall fireworks of color... what a perfect time to be zipping through the tree canopy of the Missouri river bluffs!
The guys got us into our harnesses, helmets and gloves and we headed out to the zip lines. The first started on a low wooden platform, and it quickly got higher and faster from there. They sent us flying at up to 45 mph, on 10 different lines comprising over a mile of cables. The best line was 1200 feet long & 225 feet high! The entire high-flyer course took about 1.5 hrs to complete. But the time, like us, flew by.
Having hiked about the clouds, been up in helicopters, riding in a hot air balloon, and experiencing other high places, I wasn't a bit nervous. And that didn't change even on the highest lines, when the guys were shaking the line as hard as they could, practically bouncing me off. What fun!!!

Our new friends, Stacy and... oh crap... sorry, friend!
WE SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!!
