Lionhearted Bruce

I saw this great Scottish terrier logo in a magazine, and sent it to Madeline and Diane.
Based on recent events, Diane said that she thought Bruce would prefer to have a possum in his mouth then keys. Bruce cornered a possum in their backyard recently, and he received some scratches on his nose So of course I had to draw this…

Tributes to my Lil' Buddy

Kelly was with me the day I picked out Atom—he's known him as long as I have! He posted this sweet tribute and awesome illustration on his blog:
I've received some cards from friends this week—thanks to all. I especially love the "angel Atom" that Charlotte drew for me. I have the best friends ever, and I really appreciate your kindness. (That goes for Atom's vet as well.)
Coincidentally, Thursday's KC Star had a story about the famous old Katz drug store, whose mascot looks a little familiar...

Best Week Ever!

In the last week I've had two people tell me I look like I walked off "Mad Men" & a third person say that I look like Reese Witherspoon. Me? Happier? Never! Best. Week. Ever.

Logo design for Beans & Greens

On Friday afternoon I was contacted by the sister of a friend from MSIR, who needed a logo design on a super-quick turnaround. Here's what I came up with yesterday. I think there are some fun options, so hopefully she'll see something that works. The program is really cool & I'd be so thrilled to be involved with it!!!

"Beans and Greens is a new three year pilot program created to assist low-income families in purchasing locally grown fruits and vegetables at Kansas City area farmers’ markets.  The program seeks to make locally produced nutritious fruits and vegetables more affordable and available to neighborhoods within our community that have a significant degree of food insecurity.  Additionally, the program aims to foster relationships between lower income shoppers and the farmers who produce and sell the food at the neighborhood farmers’ market."

Dog-n-Jog is coming!

Lauren is printing DNJ signs, with one of my new logos for this year on this cool yellow background. Nice! Please consider donating to our Humane Society—it's a fantastic organization, and many dogs & cats in our community need our help! My goal this year is $500.

Dog-n-Jog 2010

Ok, so it's SUPER-EARLY to be previewing this, so forget that you saw it until about March or April next year, k? This is the logo for DNJ 2010, which I've been working on for many, many hours (including 18 hours over the last 2 days). I am so very tired. Some of you loyal readers may recognize YOUR dog in here, as it is featuring: Frodo the sheepdog mix (owned by Liza), Yogi the airedale (Marianne), Murphy the wheatie (Charlotte), Donut the rat terrier (John & Michele), Baboon the boston terrier (Kristin), Otto the german shepherd (Dick), Bruce the scottie (Madeline), Marley the cairn terrier (Kelly's neighbor), Clarence the bulldog (Jerrod), Madison the golden retriever (Mom), Steph's lil' chihuahua, and of course Aki & Taylor the shibas! ...along with a few assorted others. Sorry if I couldn't fit your dog in there. I had actually drawn about a dozen more, then just fit them all together like a puzzle, and this is what worked best. (Nelly and Riley, remind me next year!)

Note to self:

Don't paint a big ugly flag & a freehand drawing of a hairy eagle on the back of my truck. (Also, don't buy a truck.)
If you're going to get all DIY with art, at least go all-out! Paint a ripped, full-body eagle with a sword in its beak & lightning bolts in his talons, the reflection of a burning city in his eyes, with a tattoo of an American flag emblazoned on his shaved chest. And a Bible verse printed below it to complete the look. Now THAT'S truck art!

Beastpile 2: Electric Boogaloo

This is a followup to my Sept. 9 post about "beastpile," my future band. No progress on the band itself, but the logo is really coming along!

Rainbow Unicorn Blueberry Tigers

フレッドのめいごの「レインボーユニコーンブルーベリータイガーズ」というサッカのチームがいい名前だから、私はこの絵を書きました。タイガもユニコーンも書くのが大好きです。Here's a logo I sketched up simply because the subject matter was irresistible. Fred's 5-year-old niece is playing soccer, and the little girls named their team together. And they landed on "Rainbow Unicorn Blueberry Tigers." Genius!

Halfway House Adoptions logo

Just finished this logo/t-shirt design for my friend Randy, who is doing volunteer work for Halfway House Adoptions, which was founded by veterinarian Dr. Wayne Steckelberg. I'm particularly proud of this one because it was a RUSH job...sketched it out last night in about an hour, then did the finishing work tonight in ~4.5 hours.
(And yes, it is 1:30 am now. Jen need sleep badly!)

Dog-n-Jog 2009

Dog-n-jog is right around the corner! And although I've been doing plenty of running, my two lazy beasts haven't been prepping for it. Last year's logo featured Aki, and Aki & I came in 2nd place in the women's 1-mile run. This year's logo features Taylor (hey, when you're the artist you have to take advantage of the perks!), and I'll be running with both dogs. (That is unless I talk one of my unsuspecting friends into taking one of them.) Not sure if we'll do 1 mile or 2. But if you see a small woman being dragged by two overzealous shibas, that would be me.
